Tooth Fillings Huntingdon
Restore The Beauty Of Your Smile
At Sawtry Dental we offer white fillings to restore your smile.
These composite or white fillings are often favoured for aesthetic reasons and will be carefully colour-matched to your surrounding teeth to maintain a natural appearance. White fillings are constantly being improved and enhanced, and are made from composite materials that are predictable and less prone to shrinkage than other fillings.
White fillings are mercury-free and can be used to fill dental cavities and safely replace old amalgam (metal) fillings for you. They are also suitable for the restoration of teeth that have been worn or chipped away.
Another advantage of composite fillings is that the material forms a bond with the tooth surface and requires very little tooth preparation. At Sawtry Dental, we are renowned for the high quality of our white fillings and the special skill with which the composite is integrated with the tooth, making them indistinguishable from your existing teeth.
Type Of Filligs

Composite Fillings
Also known as white fillings, composite fillings match the natural colour of your teeth and are more aesthetically pleasing than amalgam fillings. Composite fillings are made from a plastic glass mixture and are very durable; they often go completely unnoticed.

Amalgam Fillings
These traditional silver-coloured fillings are made from a combination of metals including silver, tin and copper. Amalgam is very hard-wearing, so it’s ideal for fillings in your back teeth. The fillings can last for several years, as long you take good care of your teeth.

White Fillings - The Process
In the event of decay or damage, your dentist may recommend tooth filling treatment. A local anaesthetic is administered to numb the area. Your dentist will use a drill or laser to remove the decay, probing the region with metal instruments to ensure that all of the decay has been removed. The cavity will be cleaned of bacteria and debris with an air/water unit. If the decay is deep and near the root, your dentist may line the area with filling materials first to protect the nerve. After the filling is put in place, the process is finalised with a polish.
Since there are different materials used for fillings, the procedure may vary. If composite material is used, the filling is applied in layers and then hardened with a special curing light. The material will then be shaped, trimmed and polished to leave you with a natural finish that seamlessly blends in with your existing teeth.

Benefits Of White Fillings
Improve Your Smile Aesthetic
As composite comes in a wide range of shades, this allows your dentist to select the shade of composite that matches the colour of your natural teeth. So, your fillings will blend in naturally with your existing teeth.
Minimal Prep
White filling treatment is a minimally invasive treatment. As composite material has a special property of chemical adherence to the natural tooth substance this results in minimal prep work requried to complete the treatment.
Enhances Self-Confidence
As white or composite fillings are designed to blend in with your smile or existing teeth, the filling will blend seamlessly with your existing teeth.
Immediate Results
White filling treatment provides instant results resulting in no downtime and you can continue with your daily routine as usual.
Silver Fillings
Amalgam/Silver Fillings
Amalgam fillings are silver in appearance but not in composition. They are actually made from a mixture of mercury, silver, tin and copper. These fillings have been around for a long time and are extremely hard wearing.
The main advantage of these fillings is that they are extremely durable and strong. They are less prone to wear and so are often the choice for back molar teeth which we use for chewing. They are less expensive than tooth coloured fillings due to their ease of application and if looked after properly they can last for many years.
