As a patient at Sawtry Dental you will be asked to attend regular check-ups where your dentist will carry out a thorough examination of your teeth and assess the overall health of your mouth. We routinely also carry out Oral Cancer checks to help detect it early.
Regular check-ups play a vital role in enabling us to identify potential risks or problems in the early stages or even before they occur. You are welcome to use your regular check-up as an opportunity to discuss any dental concerns you may have, or to ask for advice.

What To Expect During Your Initial Dental Visit?
At Sawtry Dental, during your regular check up, our experienced dentists or dental therapist, will carry out a comprehensive assessment of your teeth and gums. With longer appointment times available, we take the time to listen to your concerns and needs and take the necessary x rays and photographs to aid in your treatment planning.
All available treatment options will be discussed, and a specific treatment plan tailored to you will be agreed on. Your dentist or therapist will also check for additional things such as oral cancer at every visit, as early detection is the key to good prognosis. Our friendly team will be available and happy to answer any questions you may have regarding your treatment.
Children Dentist
What Age Should Children Start To Go To Regular Checkups?
We recommend children start to visit the dentist once their first teeth emerge. They should then attend a checkup every 6-12 months to maintain their oral health. This is essential as children’s teeth are softer than adult teeth and more susceptible to damage from decay. This means that small problems can become much bigger problems much faster than they would for adults.
Regular dental checkups will also help children to develop good oral health habits, including brushing every day. They are also much less likely to develop a fear of the dentist if this is a routine part of their life. They might see the dentist as boring and a bit of a chore, but they won’t see it as scary or something to be avoided. This can help them to keep good habits well into adulthood.
