Sawtry Dental Practice
What Is Direct Access?
At Sawtry Dental, we are delighted to be able to offer direct access hygiene visits with our dental therapist and dental hygienist without seeing a dentist first.
Our direct access system means that even if you are not a Sawtry Dental patient, you can make an appointment with our experience and gentle dental therapist and dental hygienist.
Your initial comprehensive appointment is likely to be different and more thorough than any hygiene appointment you have previously experienced.
Professional Teeth Cleaning That Protects Your Gums Not Just Your Smile

What to Expect During the Appointment
- Comprehensive Assessment: The dental therapist or hygienist will review your medical history and perform a thorough examination of your teeth and gums, including periodontal charting to measure gum health.
- Removal of Deposits: They will professionally remove plaque, calculus (tartar), and staining using manual instruments or ultrasonic scalers.
- Advanced Cleaning: We use advanced techniques like Airflow polishing for gentle, deep cleaning and stain removal.
- Tailored Advice: You will receive personalized advice on cleaning between teeth, brushing techniques, and advice on managing gum health.
- Referral to Dentist: If the dental therapist or hygienist detects issues beyond their scope—they will refer you to our dentist.

Key Points to Note
No Dentist Required
You do not need to be a registered patient at the practice.
Longer Appointment Times
Direct access appointments are often longer than standard, follow-up appointments, as they include an initial assessment.
Not a Full Check-Up
While they screen for oral cancer and gum disease, a dental therapist/hygienist direct access hygiene appointment does not replace a check up.
